TCPA Announces World Famous Key Note Speaker for 2021

For 2021, The Card & Payments Awards is delighted to reveal the most prestigious guest speaker, for the payments industry’s most significant awards and networking event.

On Thursday 29th April, we will be joined by Dame Stella Rimington.

As a speaker, she has been described as “Open. Honest. Candid. Stellar”, “Her insight and knowledge are outstanding” and “Inspiring and brilliant”.

And what a bio she has!!

She is the role model for a major character in one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. She is a best-selling thriller writer and chaired the Judging Panel for the Booker Prize for fiction in 2012. But it is her Secret Service career that has put her on the map.

In the mid-1960’s she worked part-time for the Security Service, which had an office in New Delhi. Upon returning to the UK in 1969, she joined the Service full-time. She worked in all the main fields of the Service's responsibilities - counter-subversion, counter-espionage and counter-terrorism - and impressively was the only person to become Director of all three branches.

In 1992 she was appointed Director General of MI5 (a post she held until 1996) and was the first woman to hold this post. It is her role here that provided the basis for the character of M in the 007 movies.

Made a Dame Commander of the Bath in the 1996 New Year Honour’s List, she has Honorary Degrees from Universities including Nottingham, Warwick, Lucy Cavendish Cambridge and Exeter. With Edinburgh University electing her as their “Alumna of the Year 1994”.

This is an amazing opportunity to hear Dame Stella speak and answer some of your questions. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 29th April.
